About Us

Our Mission

To be the Borderplex region's leading financial institution committed to driving the growth, prosperity, and success of our clients, communities, team members and shareholders.

Our focus is to create long-term relationships with our primary markets of family businesses, professional firms, and successful individuals through the delivery of exceptional client experiences with comprehensive financial solutions.

This approach allows us to maximize the long-term value of our shareholders' investment and better the lives of the communities we serve.

Our History

WestStar's history begins with two banks: First National Bank of Fabens and Bank of the West. In 1920, during an extremely turbulent time for rural banks and farmers, First National Bank of Fabens (First National Bank in 2000) opened its doors. Proving its grit, the bank grew and eventually acquired two other local institutions, Bank of Ysleta (1992) and Bank of El Paso (1995). In 1990, just years after another financially critical time in our country, Bank of the West (WestStar Bank in 2012) began its journey and quickly became one of our region's most respected banks. In 2016, the two banks merged to become the institution we know today.

Our Present
Now, as the Borderplex region's leading commercial bank, WestStar has assets of more than $3 billion and employs over 330 team members in branches stretching from Fabens, Texas to Las Cruces, New Mexico. As an active economic driver in our vibrant region, WestStar provides area businesses the capital they need to expand and thrive. In addition to banking services, WestStar also offers an array of financial products, including treasury management, investment, and title.

At WestStar, we take great pride in being a responsible corporate citizen. We want the best for our region, and it drives us to be actively involved in many civic organizations and non-profit agencies through volunteer service, charitable fund-raising, and sponsorships. Our Board of Directors is home to some of the Borderplex's largest charitable and civic supporters. As individuals, some of us sit as directors on boards, some serve as members, still others volunteer or contribute money. Regardless of our roles, we all share the commitment to serve.

Our Community

Our officers serve on over 60 boards and committees, and our team members also participate in numerous and varied community development efforts and philanthropic causes. Among the organizations we support are the Boys & Girls Clubs in El Paso and Las Cruces, El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, Rebuilding Together - El Paso, the Women's Fund, the United Way and many other agencies that assist and support the Borderplex community. Additionally, we partner with Project Vida's Microenterprise Technical Assistance Program. MTAP encourages business development and economic expansion in El Paso County by providing programs and support for small business.

Community Reinvestment

We're committed to the success of underserved communities, and with expertise and leadership, help local people and projects succeed. We carefully adhere to government regulations, including the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). The CRA is intended to encourage depository institutions to help meet the credit needs of the communities in which they operate, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods. Our record in helping meet the credit needs of our entire community is evaluated by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas approximately every 2-2.5 years.

Since 2008, WestStar has earned five consecutive “Outstanding” CRA ratings from the federal government, for investing in its communities, especially underserved neighborhoods, and for providing unique solutions to underserved individuals.
