Worker's Compensation

Worker's Compensation Insurance protects your business from lawsuits resulting from workplace accidents. It provides medical care and compensation for lost income to employees injured on the job. There are two parts of a work comp policy - Statutory Benefits and Employer's Liability Insurance.

Statutory workers' compensation benefits employees who suffer work-related injuries or illnesses. These benefits include medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and lost wages due to time off work. In return, employees generally give up their right to sue their employer for negligence related to the injury or illness.

Employer’s Liability Insurance addresses four types of claims:

  • Third-party lawsuits filed by employees due to injuries or illnesses caused by their jobs.
  • Loss of consortium lawsuits filed by spouses who claim a loss of marital benefits due to an employee's injury or illness.
  • Consequential bodily injury lawsuits, which non-employees can file if they are affected by an employee's injury or illness.
  • Dual-capacity lawsuits when an employer has a second relationship with the employee.
